Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Egypt seeking to build closer ties with the key US ally as instability spreads across the Gulf. Relations between Beijing and Cairo — the recipient of billions of dollars in military aid from Washington — have improved as China takes a more assertive role in the Middle East, analysts noted.

By the end of 2025, Chinese investment in Egypt had reached around $12 billion and is projected to grow to $15 billion by the end of 2026. Bilateral trade reached $20.8 billion in 2025, up 19.6 percent year-on-year, while Egyptian exports to China increased by 41.9 percent to $819 million.

Chinese company Jieya Egypt is investing $67 million to establish an integrated manufacturing complex for disposable hygiene products in the Sokhna Integrated Zone, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
