MGB says its "strategic organizational redesign," which primarily involves cutting management and administrative positions, comes as the system grapples with a projected $250 million budget gap over the next two years.

Mass General Brigham's first round of layoffs was last month companywide, including at Wentworth-Douglass. At that time, company leaders said there would be more layoffs in March.

Cooley Dickinson says it employs more than 2,000. MassGeneral Bingham as a whole employs 7,500 physicians and 80,000 employees at 16 institutions.

The layoffs were slated to stem projected financial shortfalls and are occurring as part of an ongoing consolidation of the state's largest health care system.
