At least 26 people were killed and 17 others wounded when gunmen opened fire on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the worst assault in years targeting civilians in a restive region that has seen an anti-India rebellion for more than three decades.

A LocalCircles survey conducted after the attack found that out of Indian domestic tourists who were planning to visit the once ‘Heaven on Earth’ this year, as many as 62 per cent have decided not to go, saying they were now “cancelling plans/bookings.”

Shubham Dwivedi, a 31-year-old businessman from Kanpur who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, was cremated at his native village with full state honours on Thursday morning, officials said
