Rob Reiner Remembered by Owner of Katz’s Deli, Setting for Iconic ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Scene
Jake Dell, whose family has owned the beloved NYC eatery for five generations, tells The Hollywood Reporter that the filmmaker was "a Brooklyn guy who would come and grab a sandwich."
Reiner was a beloved figure in Hollywood, having helmed so many classics like “The Princess Bride” and “Stand By Me.” “When Harry Met Sally” remains a darling in the rom-com genre with multiple memorable scenes, including Harry’s declaration of love and Sally’s famous diner scene shot at Katz’s Delicatessen in New York.
Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood, Calif. home on Sunday afternoon at 78 and 68, respectively. The Los Angeles Police Department said at the time that their deaths were being investigated as a homicide, but that they had not identified a suspect and no one had been detained.

Meg Ryan starred in Rob Reiner's "When Harry Met Sally...," a breakout role that catapulted her career in romantic comedies.

While it's now well-known as a rom-com classic, 'When Harry Met Sally' nearly wasn't romantic at all — until director Rob Reiner fell in love in real life.
The beloved rom-com features a scene at Katz’s Deli where Sally (Meg Ryan) is telling Harry (Billy Crystal) that his past lovers have likely faked orgasms with him. To prove it, she fakes one sitting across from him at lunch, bringing the deli to a standstill as everyone stares at her.
