Vacationers in Ocean City should prepare to pay a bit more for their Jersey Shore rentals if they use sites such as Airbnb or Vrbo. In a 4-3 vote, city council members decided last week to charge visitors a 3% tax on short-term rentals that they book through these kinds of third-party platforms.

Airbnb allegedly violated an anti-gouging law, which prohibits a 10% or more increase on essential goods or services during a state of emergency.

The Los Angeles city attorney's office has filed a lawsuit against Airbnb, accusing the home-sharing platform of allowing price gouging at more than 2,000 rentals following the January firestorm.
