Georgia legislators unveiled a series of proposals concerning school safety this week.  Last September, four people were killed at Apalachee High School just to the east of Atlanta. The perpetrator in that shooting was a 14 year old student.

Georgia's state House speaker wants a statewide student database of disciplinary, mental health and law enforcement information to determine which students might commit violence at school.

In the aftermath of the horrific Apalachee High School shooting back in September, Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns on Monday, with the family of football coach Richard Aspinwall in attendance, unveiled what he hopes will be a comprehensive school safety plan moving forward in the future.

An AHS family will speak at the state capitol on Tuesday as advocates continue to push for stronger safety measures at the school after the shooting. They will join Democratic State Rep. Michelle Au, who has been calling for safe gun storage laws in the state.

Among other things, the plan would create a school and student database operated by GEMA to collect and evaluate data to determine if a student may be a threat.
