Bank of America stuck to its financial outlook for the year as it reinforced the theme of the resilient American consumer and benefited from a flurry of trading around tariff jitters.

Bank of America’s net income for the second quarter increased 3% from a year ago to $7.1 billion, the bank said Wednesday. Earnings per share were 89 cents, topping analysts’ estimates for 86 cents, according to estimates compiled by FactSet.

Bank of America beat profit estimates for the latest three-month period on Wednesday as its traders brought in more revenue from tumultuous markets, while interest income rose for a fourth straight quarter.
