U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says the federal government will spend up to $1billion to combat bird flu, and hopefully lower the rising price of eggs.

Less than two weeks on the job, the new Secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Brooke Rollins is focused on the avian flu that has wiped out millions of chickens and raised the price of a dozen eggs to nearly $5. That's a 53% jump from one year ago.

The U.S. will invest up to $1 billion to combat the spread of bird flu, as well as increase imports of eggs, agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins said on Wednesday.
