Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity honored former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday at one of its construction sites. The organization, along with members of the community, gathered to raise a wall and sign a door to represent the many doors of opportunity Carter opened through his service to Habitat.

A Habitat for Humanity chapter here will honor one of the organization’s most notable advocates and volunteers, the late Jimmy Carter, the former U.S. president who died Dec. 29 at age 100. Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity officials will invite the community to sign a door meant to symbolize the contributions of Carter and his late wife,
