The Marlins claimed Gillispie off waivers from Atlanta on Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Gillispie allowed two runs with an 8:5 K:BB over eight innings covering three appearances with the Guardians in 2024 in his first major-league stint.

Jesus Sanchez and Dane Myers are projected to be two of the Marlins’ starting outfielders, and Kyle Stowers will get a chance to win the third job. The Marlins still might add a veteran starting outfielder who slips through the cracks in free agency.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough’s first coaching staff includes 10 other newcomers to the organization. McCullough won the World Series with the Dodgers as their first-base coach on Oct. 30, and he was then named the manager of the Marlins on Nov.
