An amber weather warning did not produce the intense rain and flash flooding that was feared on Saturday morning - but more unsettled weather is on the way for much of the UK.

There are reports of multiple people being swept away by flooding in Virginia as tens of millions of people are at risk of dangerous flash floods in pockets of nearly every region of the contiguous United States Friday,

Thunderstorms riding along the periphery of a heat dome over the next week will bring the potential for flooding, damaging wind gusts and hail.

A flash flood warning was released by the NWS Blacksburg VA on Saturday at 5:41 p.m. in effect until 11:45 p.m. for Caswell and Rockingham counties.

“If you’ve never seen water rise in front of you in minutes, it’s hard to conceive of how quickly that can happen—and how quickly your life and property can be at risk,” said Rachel Hogan Carr, executive director of the Nurture Nature Center, a nonprofit focused on flood-risk communication.

At 11:58 a.m. on Friday, the NWS San Diego CA released an updated flash flood warning in effect until 2 p.m. for San Bernardino County.
