The bill proposes a new $6,000 per-person tax deduction for seniors. The maximum deduction starts phasing down once income surpasses $75,000 per person, or $150,000 for joint filers. Then it phases out completely once income crosses $175,000 per person or $250,000 per couple.

The House passed Senate Republicans’ version of the reconciliation package on Thursday 218-214 in a largely party line vote. Only... The bill will now head to President Trump’s desk. He is expected to sign it on July 4.

Kentucky’s GOP congress members were among the few to jump party lines to vote against the Republican tax and spending bill in the Senate and House, drawing anger from the president.

The Senate also pulled out a change to the Pell Grant program, which provides federal aid to low-income students to attend colleges and universities. Right now, students are considered full time and qualify for the maximum amount of aid if they take 12 credits a semester.

The GOP tax bill stands to deliver a $170 billion windfall to turbocharge immigrant detentions and deportations. But public approval of Trump’s approach has soured.

It was a long-shot effort to compile a lengthy list of GOP priorities into what they called his “one big beautiful bill,” at nearly 900 pages.
