The former Los Angeles Dodgers record holder and defensive player of the year has rewritten the history books in an unlikely new home.

Shohei Ohtani was not in the starting lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against Washington on Saturday as the two-way star deals with left knee and right biceps discomfort.

The Dodgers did enter Saturday with some momentum after beating Washington 5-3 on Friday. Blake Snell delivered six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while Kyle Tucker homered and Teoscar Hernández drove in two runs. It was Los Angeles’ second consecutive win since sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 23.

The injuries were initially delaying Ohtani’s return to pitching, but they’re now affecting his hitting. He’s batting .279 with 30 home runs and 80 RBIs.
