A small Ontario town is in shock after a 17-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder and sexual assault in the brutal attack of an 8-year-old girl initially blamed on an animal.

OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson told reporters that police were compelled to warn the public about a possible animal attack in the early stages of the investigation.
