Canada’s leaders clap back at U.S. president-elect Donald Trump after he again said he’ll make Canada the 51st state of the United States.

As the entire world has heard by now, President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to use "economic force" to make Canada join the United States under his next administration. A reporter recently asked Trump during a press conference: "Are you also considering military force to annex and acquire Canada?"

Support for American statehood was the strongest among backers of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). Twenty-one percent of CPC supporters said they favored becoming a U.S. state, while 73% said they wanted Canada to remain independent.
