The wildfire has set over thousands of acres ablaze, but firefighters announced that some residents were able to return to their homes.

A fast-moving wildfire engulfing part of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens is expected to grow, with smoke affecting the air quality in the New York City area before rain arrives this week.

The air quality alert comes as emergency responders work to contain the Jones Road wildfire in New Jersey. A Thursday morning update from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the blaze had burned some 13,250 acres and was at 50 percent containment.
