The Chesapeake Health Department reported a case of rabies found in a raccoon recently. The Chesapeake Animal Services reported an incident that occurred on March 6 between a raccoon, dog and resident on Hazel Avenue in the Norfolk Highlands area of Chesapeake.

GASTONIA, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A raccoon in a Gastonia neighborhood tested positive for rabies, Gaston County officials say. On March 9, Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement received a call around 5:45 p.m., saying a dog had killed a raccoon in the 2200 block of Robinwood Road.

Health officials are urging Chesapeake residents to ensure all pets and livestock are current on rabies vaccinations.

Officials on Long Island are raising concern amid a spike in animals testing positive for rabies, and are pinning at least some of the blame for that rise on New York City.
