What is Beach Sprint rowing and how do you do it? Beach sprint racing is knockout. Time trials decide the draw, then two boats go head to head in races lasting minutes. Fastest boat progresses onto the next round - second place gets knocked out. The race begins with a sprint to the shore for one person from each crew. Competitors then row 250m out to sea, slaloming around two buoys, before turning around a third and heading straight back to the beach. The final sprint up the beach is to a buzzer
