The fire service is a family, and at Tucson Fire, it’s common to see multiple generations serving together. But three families, the Elams, Blacks, and Tamiettis, have taken that idea to the next level. At one time, 14 members of the extended family were serving together. Brian Elam and Clayton Black take us through the family tree, showing how dedication and service run deep in these families. | Tucson Fire Department

Engine 9 arrived within five minutes and found a large fire involving old city storage containers near a private landfill. Initially believed to be a hazardous materials incident, the call was quickly upgraded to a full HAZMAT response out of caution. As a precaution, nearby Udall Park was evacuated due to the fire’s proximity. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the remote locatio

Earlier this year, Tucson Fire was dispatched to a house fire. While entering the home, crews received updated information that someone could be inside. We’re taking you inside with Captain Brian Anspach, who helped locate the victim. It’s not like the movies, it’s dark, it’s smoky. You may be disoriented in these conditions even in your own home. Having a working smoke detector and having an escape plan can save your life. This video also shows you what environment firefighters work in and how

Have you had a chance to see our Mescal Studios? If not, check out this beautiful video of the sets! Films such as Tombstone and The Quick & The Dead (among many others!) have been shot here, adding buildings to the set over the years. Mescal is currently closed to the public, but we expect to schedule more tours in the fall season. If you have an inquiry about a group tour at Mescal, call us at (520) 883-0100. | Old Tucson

The Tucson Fire Department runs over 300 "working structure fires" each year. In 2020, they responded to 661 working structure fires, and in 2024, they handled an incredible record of 105,497 calls. With only 645 commissioned firefighters. Usually departments with this call load have 800-1,000 firefighters. Thank you to the firefighters in operations who hold the line day in and day out. | Tucson Fire Fighters Association

Rehab at fire scenes is about more than cooling off — it’s a structured process focused on medical monitoring, exposure documentation, and accountability. Crews go through decon, remove turnouts, and get vitals checked before returning to work. It’s how we track who was on scene, how they were doing, and what they were exposed to. Here’s Paramedic Chad Spahr explaining how it works. | Tucson Fire Department

VERTICAL VENTILATION 🏡 You may see firefighters on the roof during a fire, cutting holes. That’s called vertical ventilation. It lets smoke and heat escape, making it safer for crews inside to find and rescue people, and faster to put the fire out. Captain Brian Barrett at station 9 C-Shift shows us how it works! | Tucson Fire Department

FIREHOUSE LEGENDS: Retired Battalion Chief Todd Vossler made his mark as one of Tucson Fire’s first paramedics. His background as a Navy diver helped him establish our swift water rescue program—still saving lives today. Todd says his 22-year fire career felt brief, but his impact runs deep. These days, he keeps connected to the fire service by teaming up with other retirees to restore antique fire trucks, preserving the history he helped build. | Tucson Fire Department
