Pueo are an endemic species to Hawaii and can be found on all the central Hawaiian Islands from sea level to about 8,000 feet. They thrive in forests, shrublands, grasslands, and even some urban areas where they can hunt insects, rodents, and small birds. Unlike most owl species, the pueo is active during the day, soaring over open areas. When hunting, it will hover over its prey, then fold its wings to d
