Welcome to Naval Base San Diego

In July 2020, the United States Naval Base in San Diego witnessed one of the most dramatic incidents in the modern history of the Pacific Fleet. The amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) was engulfed in flames while docked for routine maintenance. Thick, black smoke billowed from the flight deck, visible from across the city, marking the beginning of a long battle against the blaze, which was difficult to control. ⚓🇺🇸 | Naval History
