Lake whitefish are busy getting their spawn on in Lac Ste Anne (and in other waterbodies across Alberta too!). Lake whitefish spawn on shoals from late September to the early winter, when the water temperature falls below 8°C. Shoals are areas of waterbodies that are 1-4 metres deep and provide a great place for broadcast spawners to meet up with other fish! Fertilized lake whitefish eggs will settle between the gravel substrate to incubate, and hatch in the early spring (usually April or May).
